La Merlatière is a French village with 1,000 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire ; it belongs to the arrondissement of La Roche-sur-Yon and the canton of Chantonnay (until 2015: canton Les Essarts ). The inhabitants are called «Merlatériens».

La Merlatière is about 14 kilometers northeast of La Roche-sur-Yon on the Boulogne . La Merlatière is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Dompierre-sur-Yon in the north and west, Boulogne in the north and north-east, Les Essarts in the east, Saint-Martin-des-Noyers in the south-east and La Ferrière in the south.
