Saint-Prouant is a French commune with 1,618 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the arrondissement of La Roche-sur-Yon and is part of the canton of Chantonnay . The inhabitants are called Prouantais .

Saint-Prouant is located about 37 kilometers east-northeast of La Roche-sur-Yon . The municipality is bounded to the east by the river Lay . Saint-Prouant is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Le Boupère in the north, Monsireigne in the east and south-east, Sigournais in the south, Saint-Germain-de-Prinçay in the south-west, Mouchamps in the west and Rochetrejoux in the north-west.
