Palluau is a municipality with 1,102 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vendée department in western France in the southwest of the Pays de la Loire region . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of La Roche-sur-Yon and the canton of Challans (until 2015: canton Palluau ). The inhabitants are called Palludéens .
location
Palluau is about 21 kilometers northwest of La Roche-sur-Yon . Palluau is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Étienne-du-Bois in the north, Beaufou in the east, Le Poiré-sur-Vie in the southeast, La Chapelle-Palluau in the south and Saint-Paul-Mont-Penit in the west.
The former route nationale 178 (today's D978) runs through the municipality .
history
On May 15, 1793, the outnumbered republican troops defeated the royalist insurgents of the Vendée in a battle here.
