La Chaize-le-Vicomte is a French municipality with 3770 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the arrondissement of La Roche-sur-Yon and the canton of La Roche-sur-Yon-2 . The inhabitants are called Vicomtais .
geography
The Yon River forms the northern boundary of the municipality. La Chaize-le-Vicomte is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Martin-des-Noyers in the north and northeast, Fougeré in the east, Thorigny in the southeast, Saint-Florent-des-Bois in the south, La Roche-sur-Yon in the west as well La Ferrière in the northwest.
The A87 car route runs through the municipality .
history
The Vice Counts (Viscounts) of Thouars were historically connected to the village. Aimery IV built a castle here in the 11th century.
