Saint-Fulgent is a French commune in the department of Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the arrondissement of La Roche-sur-Yon and the canton of Montaigu . The 3792 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) are called Fulgentais .
geography
The Maine River limits the community to the north and the Petite Maine to the south. Saint-Fulgent is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Bazoges-en-Paillers in the north, Beaurepaire in the north-east, Les Herbiers and Mesnard-la-Barotière in the east, Vendrennes in the south-east, Saint-André-Goule-d'Oie in the south and south-west and Chavagnes -en-paillers to the west and northwest.
The A87 autoroute and the former national route 137 run through the municipality .
history
Around the year 1000 the settlement was given the name of the enlightened Fulgentius. In 1565 the church was destroyed by the Protestants during the Wars of Religion.
