La Copechagnière is a French commune in the department of Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the arrondissement of La Roche-sur-Yon and is part of the canton of Montaigu (until 2015: canton of Saint-Fulgent ). The 999 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) are called Copechagniérois .

geography

La Copechagnière is located about 43 kilometers south-southeast of Nantes and about 20 kilometers north-northeast of La Roche-sur-Yon . La Copechagnière is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Les Brouzils in the north and northeast, Chauché in the east and southeast, and Saint-Denis-la-Chevasse in the south and west.

history

At the Battle of Gailas on January 11, 1794, located on today's D6 departmental road and on the border with Les Brouzils, the republican troops defeated the royalist insurgents of the Vendée.
