The Heidekrautbahn Museum is opened in 2000, facility on the premises of the railway depot of Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn (NEB, "heather train") in Basdorf . Railway enthusiasts, who had already formed the Berliner Eisenbahnfreunde eV association in 1978 in preparation for a slow train ride to Interbau 1984 in Reinickendorf , founded the museum together with the Heidekrautbahn eV association in 1996. The focus of the museum's collection is on exhibits on the history of the Heidekrautbahn and the history of the Tegel-Friedrichsfelde industrial railway .
Location and description
The technical museum is located in the Basdorf district of the Wandlitz community , An der Wildbahn 2a in the buildings of the railway depot. The museum includes locomotive and car halls with vehicles, actuating devices, a signal garden and a half-barrier system operated with a hand crank on the outdoor area. In the exhibition rooms (first floor and extended atrium on the ground floor) visitors will find objects and texts on the history of Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn AG , which trace the concrete development of the Heidekrautbahn railway network with the superstructures, the stations and the technical equipment. Furthermore, typical railway uniforms, photos, timetables and tickets, original parts of discarded trains and vehicle models can be seen. The museum has now also taken over exhibits from other railway collections.
The association members, who are all volunteers, are particularly proud of the following exhibits:
- 1925er Hanomag - steam locomotive from the Austrian Ampflwang , in 2017 not roadworthy
- 1957 steam locomotive, DR class 65.10 , from Lokomotiv- und Waggonbau Babelsberg ,
- two 1954 railcars , including one donated from lottery funds VT 95 of the German Federal Railways ,
- eight diesel locomotives from the years of construction 1934 to 1978 in different sizes, strengths and from different German manufacturers,
- 15 passenger and freight cars from 1899 to 1965
- Diorama depicting part of the former premises of the Berliner Eisenbahnfreunde in Berlin-Reinickendorf , Waldstrasse,
- the last mechanical train destination indicator of the NEB ( jumping jack ) from Basdorf station
- Chime ,
- extensive collection of photos and documents about the heather railway from the last decades of the 20th century.
- the electro-mechanical signal box from Basdorf train station
The vehicles are regularly serviced by the association and some are used on various special trips over the course of a year . Of course, the history of the Berlin Railway Friends Association is also clearly illustrated.
The museum is open on Saturdays (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) between April and the end of October.
History of the museum
Together with the Förderverein Heidekrautbahn eV , the members of the Berliner Eisenbahnfreunde association expanded the former apprentice workshop of the depot in Basdorf into a small showroom that was opened to the public on Ascension Day in 2000. In the long term, the museum is striving to enlarge the exhibition space and thus a better location.
At the same time as the collection and viewing of exhibits and rolling stock, the railroad enthusiasts also restore vehicles with great personal effort and usually drive them themselves. And they look after the museum. Competent club members provide comprehensive information and are also happy to receive gifts or tips from visitors.
Once a year, a well-attended museum festival takes place on the railway site in Basdorf.
Museum trips
The Berlin Railway Friends had already opened a museum operation on the disused branch of the industrial railway in Berlin-Lübars- Tegel in the 1980s . Immediately after the fall of the Wall , from September 1, 1990, the association organized museum trips on the southern section of the Heidekrautbahn that was closed for passenger traffic. The existing steam locomotives or rail buses from the provisional stop at Märkisches Viertel on Wilhelmsruher Damm , which is not far from the former Berlin-Rosenthal train station , are used as tractors . The trips end on the museum grounds in Basdorf.
The traditional trips with a steam locomotive that is ready to run are well received by interested parties of all ages. An average of 20 special trips take place each year.
