history

Althüttendorf belonged to the Angermünde district from 1817 to 1952, to the Eberswalde district in the GDR district of Frankfurt (Oder) from 1952 to 1990, and has been part of the Barnim district since 1993 . The municipality of Neugrimnitz was incorporated into Althüttendorf on January 1, 2003.

Althüttendorf

The village of Althüttendorf emerged from a glassworks that was moved here from Grimnitz Castle . The Grimnitzer Glashütte in Althüttendorf was founded in 1653 by the electoral chief hunter who settled Bohemian and Hessian glassmakers here. With the commissioning of the train station in 1898, stone cutting developed next to it . For this purpose, the up to eight meters thick block packs in the Ihlow Mountains were dismantled. At the end of the 1960s, mining was stopped.

A holiday camp was set up and maintained in the district during the GDR era .

Neugrimnitz

In what is now Neugrimnitz, a glassworks was built during the Brandenburg-Swedish War (1675–1679). A brewery, a bakery and extensive stables were added later. The third Grimnitz glassworks was built here by Gabriel Supe in 1682 .

Until the year 1749 the Vorwerke Neugrimnitz, Grumsin and Mellin were under the administration of the Liebenwald Office. Until 1839 they then formed the royal office of Grimnitz . In 1745 a new glassworks was inaugurated. It existed until the end of the 18th century and produced green glasses. In addition to glass production, agriculture developed into Neugrimnitz's second mainstay. Around 1850, 883 acres of land were cultivated by 13 day labor families. At times, up to 2000 sheep were kept here. Other important income came from the operation of the local brewery and distillery.
