Schorfheide is an unofficial community in northern Brandenburg . It only has 10,000 inhabitants, but at 238 km² it is the largest municipality in the Barnim district .

With its northern part, the municipality has a share in the natural area of the Schorfheide .

In addition, there are the living spaces Altlotzin, Conradshöhe, Döllner Siedlung, Eichheide, Forsthaus Prötze, Gardix, Grahsee, Hubertusmühle, Klein Dölln , Langer Grund, Margaretenhof, Rehluch, Trämmersee, Üderheide and Wildfang.
history
Finowfurt and its districts belonged to the Oberbarnim district since 1817 , Groß Schönebeck and its districts to the Niederbarnim district in the Prussian province of Brandenburg . In 1952 Finowfurt was incorporated into the Eberswalde district , Groß Schönebeck into the Bernau district in the GDR district of Frankfurt (Oder) . Since 1993 all places have been in the Brandenburg district of Barnim.
The municipality of Schorfheide was created in the course of the municipal reform by amalgamating the municipalities of Finowfurt and Groß Schönebeck on October 26, 2003. Districts that were incorporated into these two communities were detached and became independent districts of the new community of Schorfheide.

Local councils are elected in the districts of the municipality. They consist of three members in Altenhof, Böhmerheide, Eichhorst, Klandorf, Schluft and Werbellin, five members in Groß Schönebeck and Lichterfelde, and seven members in Finowfurt.

Westerkamp was elected in the mayoral election on September 15, 2019 with 50.4% of the valid votes for a term of eight years.

Blazon : "Divided by green and gold diagonally to the left over a scaled-down blue corrugated shield base, covered at the dividing line by half a golden tree disc at the front and half a black mill wheel at the back."

The community maintains partnerships with the towns of Korschenbroich ( North Rhine-Westphalia ), Mielno ( West Pomeranian Voivodeship , Poland ) and Dorossiamasso ( Burkina Faso ).
Sights and culture
The list of architectural monuments in Schorfheide and the list of ground monuments in Schorfheide (municipality) include the cultural monuments of the State of Brandenburg, including the Groß Schönebeck hunting lodge with the Schorfheidemuseum in the district of the same name and the Askanier tower on the south bank of the Werbellinsee . Large parts of the municipality belong to the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve, founded in 1990 .
In the Schorfheide Wildlife Park, you can see native animal species such as otters , red deer , fallow deer , wild boars and European mouflons as well as wolves , bison , elk , lynx and Przewalski's horses .
There is an aviation museum in Finowfurt .

- State road L 100 between Zerpenschleuse and Gollin
- State road L 220 between the district Finowfurt and Joachimsthal
- State road L 238 between Eberswalde and Joachimsthal
The community of Schorfheide lies on both sides of the federal motorway 11 (Berlin– Stettin ). The junctions Werbellin and Finowfurt are located in the municipality.
The Groß Schönebeck train station and the Klandorf stop of the regional train line RB 27 from Groß Schönebeck to Berlin-Karow , the so-called " Heidekrautbahn ", operated by Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn AG (NEB), are located in the municipality .
In 1907 the Eberswalde-Finowfurt Railway was opened with the Finowfurt Ost stop and the Finowfurt station. In 1961 the passenger traffic was stopped, in 1995 the freight traffic.
Three waterways run through the municipality: the Oder-Havel Canal , the Finow Canal and the Werbellink Canal .

There are six day-care centers in the municipality as well as two elementary schools and one high school with elementary school (as of 2018).
Club life
There are opportunities to spend your free time in over 50 clubs. Seven of the nine districts have a volunteer fire brigade .
