Ferdinand Wilhelm Reimar Alexander von Kleist (born December 5, 1797 in Groß Schönebeck , † June 28, 1867 in Berlin ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

Ferdinand von Kleist was a member of the Pomeranian noble family von Kleist , a grandson of the Prussian major general Reimar von Kleist (1710–1782) and son of the Prussian chief forestry master in the Duchy of Magdeburg , Friedrich Wilhelm Ernst Ferdinand von Kleist (1767–1841) and his wife Dorothea Wilhelmine Corsica (1769-1842).

Military career

Kleist joined the wars of liberation on February 2, 1813 as a voluntary fighters in the detachment of the Guard one. In 1813 he was promoted to second lieutenant and was seriously wounded at Großgörschen , for which he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir IV class. In April 1814 Kleist was assigned to the 1st Guards Regiment on foot and was promoted to prime lieutenant in 1821 , captain and company commander in 1831 , commander of the personal company in 1834 and major in 1840 . In this rank he took over as commander of the 2nd battalion in 1845 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1849 . In the same year he became commander of the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot . In 1851 he was promoted to colonel and in 1852 was awarded the Order of St. John . On May 10, 1855, Kleist was placed in command of the 3rd Infantry Guard Brigade and on June 12, 1855 à la suite of the 2nd Guard Regiment on foot and appointed commander of the 2nd Infantry Guard Brigade. In the same year he advanced to major general and received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. In 1858 Kleist became the commander of the 15th division and rose to lieutenant general . In the following year he was honored with the star for the Order of the Red Eagle. On his 50th anniversary in the Prussian Army , Kleist was awarded the First Class Crown Order. Honors were followed in 1861 by the Order of the Red Eagle First Class and the Order of the Iron Crown, and in 1863 by the Grand Cross of the House Order of the White Falcon .

On behalf of the German Confederation , Kleist visited the Austrian contingent in 1863 together with General Feldzeugmeister Prince Carl of Prussia . As adjutant general he was in the personal service of King Wilhelm I in 1864 and was appointed governor of Cologne by him . In 1864 Kleist received another special award, he received the Order of the White Eagle , the third highest order of the Imperial Russian . After his resignation had already been rejected in March 1864, the king promoted him to general of the infantry on December 20, 1864 and put him up for grabs with a pension . However, he remained in the position of adjutant general until his death.

Kleist was buried on June 29, 1867 in Potsdam .

family

Kleist married Leopoldine Eleonore Henriette Sophie Marianne Countess von der Goltz in 1831 (born March 31, 1810, † October 20, 1845 in Potsdam). She was the daughter of the Prussian lieutenant general and ambassador in Paris, Karl Friedrich Heinrich von der Goltz (1775-1822) and his wife Julie von Seckendorff from the Abedar family (1786-1857). The marriage remained childless.
