Böhmerheide is a district of the non-governmental municipality Schorfheide in the Barnim district in Brandenburg .

geography

The place is located 15 kilometers west-north-west of Finowfurt , the seat of the municipal administration, and 24 kilometers west-north-west of Eberswalde , the administrative seat of the district. It is located in the district of Groß Schönebeck . The settlement encloses the White Lake on three sides, only the north bank is undeveloped. Here the place borders on the Schorfheide-Chorin biosphere reserve , in the west on the Kuhpanzsee , which belongs to the Oberhavel district.

history

The isthmus between the northern shore of the White Lake and the Aalkastenfließ shows traces of long-term settlement, ranging from the European late Neolithic to the early modern period . In addition to stone tools and a burial ground, this includes numerous ceramic finds. The traces of medieval farmsteads visible in aerial photographs can be assigned to the villages of Alt- and Neu-Gröben, which are documented. These probably emerged in the course of the German settlement in the East in the High Middle Ages , but were only mentioned as desertification from the middle of the 14th century , probably as a result of the plague wave of 1347 .

Johann Cicero, Elector of Brandenburg

The birth certificate of today's Böhmerheide is a certificate from Elector Johann Cicero from 1491, with which he enfeoffed the "Bome brothers and cousins" from Groß Schönebeck with the "desert villages of Alt- and Neu-Gröben". Branches of the family, whose permanent enfeoffment is also documented in the following centuries, lived in Hammer as well as in Groß Schönebeck. The name "Böhmerheide", whose name is derived from the enfeoffed family, appears for the first time in a 1699 contract. Settlement in the area of today's Böhmerheide can only be assumed again for the year 1714, when an Adam Baum / Bohm received the permission of Friedrich Wilhelm I to build a house on the Gröben field. From this nucleus arose Groß-Böhmerheide , which grew into a larger estate by the 20th century. Today the area is located in the outside area beyond the town exit towards Groß Schönebeck.

In 1783 a branch of the Bohms based in Hammer built the "Etablissement" Klein-Böhmerheide on the old field mark Gröben . It burned down in 1897 and was not rebuilt.

After several changes of ownership from Groß-Böhmerheide at the beginning of the 20th century and the extensive cessation of farm operations, the parceling of today's local area for settlement purposes began in the 1920s . The Reichserbhofgesetz of September 29, 1933 put a provisional end to a planned expansion of the area, as it meant that arable land was largely inalienable and that it was forbidden to be converted into settlement land. The originally planned structure with an expanded promenade, park areas and even a church was no longer realized. In the following decades, Böhmerheide developed into a resort, mainly for Berliners. This process accelerated after the Second World War , and holiday properties and holiday camps for several large companies were also created . The proportion of permanently inhabited real estate remained low until German reunification , but has increased continuously since then.

Böhmerheide was part of the former community of Groß Schönebeck and became part of the newly created community of Schorfheide when it was merged with Finowfurt on October 26, 2003.

Local advisory board

The elections for the local councils in the state of Brandenburg take place parallel to the local elections. The last local council elections took place on May 26, 2019, with a turnout of 64.7 percent. The Schorfheide Alliance would be entitled to two seats based on its share of the vote. Since only one applicant was nominated, a seat on the local advisory board remains free.

The district has so far (as of 2019) no public buildings. Meetings of the local advisory board and elections are therefore mainly held in the Am Weissen See restaurant and in mobile voting containers.

Mayor

The local council elects the mayor from among its members. Gerhard Schmidt (Alliance Schorfheide) has been the mayor of Böhmerheide since 2014. He was elected for a further five-year term in 2019.

Sightseeing and tourism

The White Lake was formed during the last ice age in the Pleistocene as a tongue basin lake under the pressure of the inland ice. It is part of an approximately 7 km long chain of lakes, which also includes the Treptowsee, the Kuhpanzsee, the Wutzsee, the Mühlensee and the Beverinsee. With a length of about 1.15 kilometers and a maximum width of 428 meters, it covers an area of 20.6 hectares. The average water depth is 7.5 meters. The reed belt of the lake, which used to be very strong, has thinned noticeably since the 1960s and only reaches a width of up to 7 meters in a few places. The banks are dense with trees. With strong seasonal fluctuations, there is a tributary on the east bank from the moor around the Papensee, which is now almost completely silted up. The runoff to the Kuhpanzsee on the west bank was created as an artificial puncture before the First World War . Both connections are impassable even for small boats. The lake's water level has dropped significantly over the last few decades.

Around the lake there is an approximately 2.4 kilometer long, unpaved circular hiking trail. Dogs are required to be on a leash. Driving on the lake with sailing boats or with boats with engines of any kind is prohibited.

Bathing area

In the southeast corner of the White Lake there is a public bathing area with a heaped sandy beach, a jetty and a children's playground. The water quality can currently (as of 2018) be described as very good, the depth of view is seasonal due to the algae growth.

The open space forms the central location of the settlement and is also used for events. Traditionally, a campfire is lit twice a year, at Easter and Halloween. In winter, the area that slopes down to the lake is used as a toboggan hill when there is enough snow.

Restaurant and Pension Am Weissen See

The restaurant "Am Weissen See" is located above the lawn. The restaurant offers down-to-earth cuisine with the typical flavors of the region and has a sun terrace facing the lake. Pension rooms are also offered. The opening times vary according to the season.

pottery

The workshop of the ceramist Petra Wessel is in Buchfinkenweg near the bathing area. Their typical Schorfheidekeramik reflects the color and structure of the Brandenburg sandy soil and is often decorated with the pattern of the alder fruits growing here. In addition to a workshop sale, pottery courses take place here regularly.

Fishing club

The lake is the sports water of the Anglerverein Groß Schönebeck / Schorfheide eV as legal successor of the former local group Groß Schönebeck of the German Anglers Association . On the south bank there is a club area with a boat dock. Various fishing activities and competitions are held throughout the year.

Infrastructure

traffic

The settlement is accessed via Hammer Chaussee, which connects the Groß Schönebeck district of the Schorfheide community with the Hammer district of the town of Liebenwalde in the Oberhavel district. A well-developed cycle path runs parallel to the road. There are two Barnimer bus company stops in the local area on Chaussee. Groß Schönebeck can be reached Monday to Friday with the 904 bus, which also serves as a school bus.

The road network within the settlement consists largely of unpaved roads. The maximum permissible speed is limited here to 20 km / h. Street lighting is not available everywhere.

media

A development with electricity, drinking water, natural gas and telephone is given almost everywhere. While the power supply in urban areas is largely provided by underground cables , the telephone connections are largely designed as aerial cables . A connection to the fiber optic network provides a broadband Internet connection. At the moment, connections according to the VDSL 50 standard are already possible in parts of the village, and a high-speed expansion is planned for the entire settlement area. The fresh water supply and wastewater disposal have been carried out by the drinking and wastewater association TAV Liebenwalde since 1993, whereby part of the settlement is already firmly connected to the wastewater network, while at the same time disposal takes place through drain-free collecting pits.

The Böhmerheider book box, a public bookcase that functions as a swap exchange, is located near the bathing area . It was created on the basis of a disused TelH90 telephone booth from Deutsche Telekom . Public libraries have the districts of Groß Schönebeck (approx. 5 kilometers) and Finowfurt (approx. 15 kilometers).

In the local area there is a mailbox from Deutsche Post AG and one from the regional postal service provider City Brief Bote (CBB).

education

Böhmerheide does not have its own educational institutions. The nearest day care center “Kuhpanzwichtel” (approx. 3.5 kilometers) is in the Hammer district of the town of Liebenwalde in the Oberhavel district. The next elementary school and the “Borstel” daycare center are located in the Groß Schönebeck district of Schorfheid (approx. 6 kilometers). Finowfurt, the seat of the municipality, (approx. 15 kilometers) has a high school with elementary school (as of 2019).

Personalities

Trivia

For the 19th and 20th centuries, “Böhmerheide” is almost only used as a place name, but not as a name for the region. The statement that has been made more frequently in recent years, namely to live as a resident of the settlement " in the Böhmerheide", is therefore semantically incorrect. This equation with a landscape designation also leads to a change in emphasis , so that “Böhmer'heide” increasingly becomes “'Böhmerheide”.
