history
Individual finds prove the presence of humans for at least 5000 years. But it was only the Slavs who settled here permanently . Under the rule of the Askanians , the Breden Castle was built on the bank, which the margraves used as accommodation for their hunting trips in the Schorfheide. This courtyard remained unused in the meantime, but was reactivated by the Hohenzollerns in the 16th century as the “Oller Hof” (“Alter Hof”). In the 17th century the court fell into disrepair; 200 years later, the Altenhof forestry department was established, and impressive remains of the vaults of the Ascanian castle came to light. There was always a small fishing settlement attached to the farm that survived the chaos of war. In 1887 the first school was built in the village. Despite its favorable location, the place was only discovered for excursion traffic and tourism in the 20th century. In 1936 an excursion bus line was set up directly from Berlin to Altenhof. During the GDR era, the pioneering republic "Wilhelm Pieck" existed at the lake , whose buildings are now used as a European youth recreation and education center. The FDGB rest homes, which were closed after the fall of the Wall, were replaced by private holiday businesses.
Incorporation
Altenhof was incorporated into Finowfurt on December 30, 2002 .
tourism
An excursion steamer runs from Altenhof to Wildau and Joachimsthal; the place also offers moorings for boat owners. There are two larger restaurants and a number of pensions in the village, as well as the mentioned youth rest home. Altenhof serves as a starting point for hikes and bike tours through the Schorfheide.
