geography

Community structure

The community Friedrichswalde consists of the two districts Friedrichswalde and Parlow-Glambeck. Places to live are Glambeck, Parlow, Pehlenbruch, Redernswalde and Schmelze.

history

The place was founded in 1748 by decree of the Prussian King Friedrich II , from whom it owes its name. He also arranged for 30 farming families from the Electoral Palatinate and Rheinhessen to settle here, who, in return for personal relief, took over the lands that had been orphaned by the Thirty Years' War . There were also 22 other Büdner families by 1768 . The privileges granted by Friedrich II resulted in a certain special position in relation to the residents of the neighboring towns, which for a long time brought with it a special reputation for the Friedrichswalders, as the local chronicle shows. With the colonists the knowledge for the manufacture of wooden shoes was brought to Friedrichswalde. Although banned by Friedrich II, every second family in Friedrichswalde was producing wooden shoes after just a few years, which were produced here until the mid-1950s. This gave rise to the name as the largest wooden shoemaker's village in Germany. The historic wooden shoemaker's workshop in the vicarage, which has been in existence since 2009, continues this tradition. The Reformed Church, a half-timbered building, which was built between 1776 and 1783, was rebuilt with brick in 1890 and received its present form. In front of the church there is a large granite stone, which is dedicated to the 30 first settler families and provides information about their arrival in the Mark Brandenburg in 1748.

Friedrichswalde had belonged to the Angermünde district in the province of Brandenburg since 1817 and to the Eberswalde district in the GDR district of Frankfurt (Oder) from 1952 . The community has been located in the Brandenburg district of Barnim since 1993.

Parlow-Glambeck was incorporated into Friedrichswalde on February 1, 2002.
