Final mast

End mast with transition to underground cable

A terminal mast is a mast on which an overhead line of the power grid ends.

At a terminal mast there is usually a transition from an overhead line to underground cable or a feed to a mast transformer . Alternatively, the lines can be routed to a rail in the substation . However, a guy portal is usually used here.

A terminal mast corresponds in its design to a junction mast to which an underground cable branches off from an overhead line. Occasionally such junction masts become terminal masts after the overhead line has been dismantled in one direction.

In the case of low and medium voltage lines, the transition from the cable to the overhead line takes place on the mast, in the case of higher voltages sometimes in a cable garden that surrounds the end mast.
