Panketal is a municipality in the south of the Barnim district in Brandenburg, directly on the northern city limits of Berlin .
geography
The municipality of Panketal lies on the Barnim plateau , which was formed during the Ice Age and is assigned to the Niederbarnim. The highest elevation of the municipality is on the Gehrenberg with 93 m above sea level. Reached NHN . The eponymous Panke , a tributary of the Spree , crosses the community when coming from Bernau and shapes it as does the Dranse stream . The development of the districts of Schwanebeck and Zepernick flows smoothly into that of the Berlin district of Buch .

history
Schwanebeck and Zepernick belonged to the Niederbarnim district in the Prussian province of Brandenburg since 1817 and to the Bernau district in the GDR district of Frankfurt (Oder) from 1952 . The villages have been in the Brandenburg district of Barnim since 1993.
The municipality of Panketal was created on October 26, 2003 from the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Schwanebeck and Zepernick . The non-official municipality is the legal successor to the Panketal office , which was founded on September 2, 1992 and dissolved again on October 26, 2003 as part of the Brandenburg municipal reform. It consisted of the communities Schönow , Ladeburg , Börnicke , Rüdnitz , Lobetal , Zepernick and Schwanebeck .

Since 2003 Rainer Fornell has been the mayor of the Panketal community. In the election on September 11, 2011, he was confirmed in office with 64.8% of the valid votes. Rainer Fornell passed away on January 15, 2018. In the mayoral election on June 24, 2018, Maximilian Wonke was elected as his successor for a term of eight years with 58.3% of the valid votes.

The center in the listed granary shows an exhibition about the landscape of the Barnim Nature Park , the history of Hobrechtsfelde and Berlin's wastewater treatment .
Stones without borders
Stones without borders is a sculpture complex in Hobrechtsfelde. There are 114 sculptures on around 15 kilometers of forest and field paths, which were created in five symposia in the Buch forest between 2001 and 2012

Former high ropes course
Since 2006 the district of Hobrechtsfelde has had the HOBI high rope climbing garden , which was run by SG Einheit Zepernick e. V. was established. Due to financial problems at the club, operations by the SG unit Zepernick ended in 2008. Since then, the climbing garden has been managed by an external operator. The climbing garden was funded with 150,000 €. It consisted of a stable framework made of tree trunks, beams and ropes, which at a height of between 8 and 10 meters between two platforms contained 23 exercise elements. The climbing garden was closed in spring 2014. It was reopened as the Vectoura climbing park in July 2016 at a new location in Bernau .
traffic
The state roads L 200 ( Barnim –Bernau triangle , until 2003 Bundesstrasse 2 ), L 313 ( Berlin-Buch - Birkholz ) and L 314 (Berlin-Buch – Bernau) run through Panketal .
The Bundesautobahn 10 (northern Berliner Ring) crosses the southern municipality twice. At Dreieck Barnim (until 2013 Dreieck Schwanebeck ) the A 11 Berlin- Stettin branches off. The closest motorway junctions are south of Dreieck Kreuz Barnim (A 10) and east of Bernau-Süd on the A 11.
Panketal has two stations on the Berlin S-Bahn ( Zepernick and Röntgen ) on the S2 line between Bernau and Blankenfelde .
