history
On September 1, 1881, the Prussian State Railways set up the first stop in Zepernick, which in 1910 was given the addition (Kr Niederbarnim) . From 1911 the four-track expansion of the Szczecin Railway and the elevation of the railway line on a dam began. Zepernick was used exclusively as a stop for the suburban trains between the Stettiner Bahnhof in Berlin and Bernau . After the completion of this measure, the Prussian State Railways intended to electrify the suburban tracks with alternating current and acceptance via overhead lines . In 1922, the Deutsche Reichsbahn, founded in 1920, decided against alternating current and in favor of direct current operation with power consumption via a side busbar . The hyperinflation initially delayed the project, so that the work was not completed until mid-1924. On August 8, 1924, the first electric suburban train ran from Berlin's Stettin suburban train station to Bernau, stopping in Zepernick. From December 1, 1930, this suburban traffic was called the S-Bahn .
Due to the war, the S-Bahn traffic was idle between April 1945 and June 21, 1945. The first trains initially ran with steam locomotives , before electric trains were used again from August 13, 1945. The second track on the suburban and long-distance tracks of the Szczecin Railway was dismantled as reparations for the Soviet Union , in Zepernick the second suburban track for train crossings was retained.
Since the Niederbarnim district was dissolved in 1952, the addition (Kr Niederbarnim) was changed to (b Bernau) on May 17, 1953 .
From August 9, 1969, the train crossings in Zepernick ceased and the demolition to the stop took place after the Deutsche Reichsbahn adjusted the timetables of the S-Bahn accordingly. In order to still be able to offer ten-minute intervals from Bernau to Berlin during the morning rush hour, one circuit ran from Bernau to Berlin-Buch without stopping at Zepernick and Röntgengental. Like the other single-track stations, the S-Bahn track was initially on the south side of the station and was relocated to the north side in 1974. In the same year the platform barriers were removed, two years earlier the supervision of the station was withdrawn. The second S-Bahn track was put back into operation by March 18, 1985, and scheduled train crossings began again from June 1, 1986. Also in 1985, light box direction indicators went into operation.
On October 29, 2010, as part of the Federal Republic of Germany's economic stimulus package I , the station received an elevator system for barrier-free access.
Connection
The station is served by the S2 line of the Berlin S-Bahn every 20 minutes. You can change to bus routes 867, 868, 891, 900 and 901 of the Barnimer bus company .
