The Bernau-Friedenstal train station is a stop in the city of Bernau near Berlin in the Barnim district . It is served by the S-Bahn line S2. The very short construction time of just four months, in which this was completely erected, is remarkable.
location
The station on the Szczecin Railway is located around 1.5 km as the crow flies east of the city center of Bernau. Approx. The A 11 runs 300 m further east . The station is adjacent to Wolchowstrasse , Lenastrasse and Angarastrasse . Bernau train station is around 2 km to the east and Zepernick train station around 3 km west and is in the Berlin C tariff zone of the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association .
Naming
The station is named after the Bernau settlement of Friedensthal. But after construction in 1997 the station was named Bernau-Friedenstal . The h in the station name was officially deleted.
history
As early as 1921, a memorandum from the Transport Association on the Stettiner Bahn called for the construction of a suburban station in the Bernau settlement of Friedensthal between the existing Zepernick stop and the Bernau train station . A possible construction did not take place before 1997. In 1994 the Deutsche Bahn AG estimated the costs at around € 13.3 million (then 26.6 million marks ). Finally, private investors participated in the construction. Apart from the planning, this only lasted four months, from May 27, 1997 to September 30, 1997. The cost after construction was just 1.9 million euros (3.8 million DM at the time).
Today's operation
The station stands on a track leading to Berlin that has not been used since 1945 and consists of a 152 m long outer platform that is only partially covered. The platform can be reached barrier-free .
