The Attila Street Station is a train station of the S-Bahn in Berlin . It was opened in 1895 under the name Mariendorf and electrified in 1939 . In 1992 it got its current name.

location

It was originally located in the municipality of Mariendorf just under two kilometers northwest of the town center. In 1920 Mariendorf and the area around the train station came to Berlin. The location south end west of the train station came to the district of Steglitz . The district border leads directly west past the train station. Since 1938, the station no longer belongs to Mariendorf, but to the Tempelhof district of the then eponymous district (today: Tempelhof-Schöneberg district ).

history

The station was built at the intersection of the Dresden Railway and the Chaussee from Lankwitz to Tempelhof. It replaced the Südende B. D. station, which had existed since 1875 (the abbreviation stands for Berlin and Dresden, in contrast to the station of the same name on the Anhalter Bahn ). The original systems were very simple. In the northern part of the station there was a switch from which the single-track line to Zossen became double-tracked. The track of the military railway ran parallel to this, but it did not touch the station. It got its present shape in the years 1910 to 1914 after the line was raised. In 1939 the suburban tracks were electrified.

In 1945 the bridges over the Teltow Canal were destroyed by German troops . After the end of the war, the bridge of the Dresden Railway was replaced by a wooden emergency bridge, which burned down in the summer of 1947. For a few weeks, the passengers had to walk from a makeshift platform on the south bank of the canal to Mariendorf station.

By December 2013, the station should be equipped with an elevator for barrier-free access. The opening was then planned for July 2014, but did not take place until September 2014.

The signal box Tfd , which is located east of the S-Bahn platform and erected in 1926, was demolished in March 2017 as part of the expansion of the Dresden Railway. There the connecting track coming from Tempelhof joined the Dresden Railway.

On April 3, 2018, the Marienfelde electronic signal box went into operation, which also controls the track systems in the station (formerly the stop ) at Attilastraße. The independent Mariendorf junction (Abzw BMD) to the south , where the freight train track from Tempelhof converged, was closed in this context. At the same time, the new S-Bahn Berlin (ZBS) train control system went into operation.

The station in the style of the beginning of modernism consists of a central platform in the embankment and an entrance at the southern end of the platform. The counter hall was set up in the abutment of the road bridge over Attilastrasse.

In the station area there is another track to the east of the S-Bahn tracks, which is used for freight traffic. It joins the S-Bahn tracks south of the platform. The platform houses were removed in 1979 and replaced by a new service room at the staircase.

traffic

The S-Bahn station is served by the S2 line of the Berlin S-Bahn . You can change to bus lines 184 and 282 of the BVG .
