The Mahlow station is a railway station in the village Mahlow the Brandenburg community Mahlow . It is served by the Berlin S-Bahn line S2 .

location

The station is located in the center of the Mahlow district on the 16.88 km of  the Berlin – Dresden railway line , a few hundred meters within the Berlin outer ring .

history

Mahlow station was opened together with the Dresden Railway on June 17, 1875. From May 15, 1939, electric S-Bahn trains ran to Mahlow, and in October 1940 the S-Bahn connection was extended to Rangsdorf . The station building was hit and badly damaged in bombing raids in 1943.

The construction of the Berlin Wall cut off S-Bahn traffic to the north. A train still commuting south to Rangsdorf was discontinued in September 1961 and the trains between Rangsdorf and Wünsdorf were extended to Mahlow, but from May 1963 they were routed to Schönefeld via the outer ring . In order to continue to connect Mahlow, a separate platform was created at Blankenfelde station and the short stretch was served by a shuttle train. Diesel locomotives of the V 15 series with a control car were used during the first few years. Due to the blue paintwork of the locomotives, this connection was given the nickname "Blauer Bock", based on an entertainment program broadcast at the same time .

Listed station building of the military railway

After the reunification, the connection of the West Berlin S-Bahn network with the surrounding area was tackled. Since the Dresden Railway was electrified with alternating current in 1985 , a completely new track would have had to be built for the S-Bahn to go back into operation. Therefore it was limited to a restart to Blankenfelde, where a switch to regional traffic was made. The "Blue Bock" was discontinued on September 16, 1991 and the affected section was converted for electrical operation. On August 31, 1992, the S-Bahn traffic from Blankenfelde via Mahlow to Lichtenrade and on to Bernau was resumed.

Contrary to the generally clearance procedures ZAT the train clearance is at this station by the dispatcher as local supervision .

Investments

The station building is to the east of the track system. It is essentially a new building that was opened in 1961, shortly before the Wall was built. The S-Bahn platform is in an elevated position, it is an island platform with two tracks. Mahlow serves as a junction station, where the trains of the S2 line meet on the otherwise single-track route between Lichtenrade and Blankenfelde. Between the S-Bahn platform and the station building are the systems of the long-distance railway that are no longer in use, while the loading street is north of the station building. The Royal Prussian Military Railway had its station building on the west side of the tracks. It is used as a residential building and is a listed building.

traffic

The station is now served by the S2 line of the Berlin S-Bahn every 20 minutes and offers the option of changing to bus lines operated by the Teltow-Fläming transport company .
