The Berlin-Marienfelde Bahnhof is a Berlin S-Bahn station and a freight station on the Berlin-Dresden railway in the district Marie Felde of the district Tempelhof-Schöneberg .

history

The Marienfelde stop was opened with the Dresden Railway on June 17, 1875. A few months later, on October 15, 1875, the station was also a stop on the Royal Prussian Military Railway from the Berlin military station to Zossen . At that time the breakpoint was far away from the development. It was an impetus for the development of Neu-Marienfelde.

In 1893 the breakpoint was extended to the station. The expansion with the central platform was opened in March 1903. The station has been served by the electric S-Bahn since May 1939.

The terminal building was partially destroyed during the Second World War . Today there is only access to the platform. After the war, the second track in the direction of Lichtenrade was dismantled. This was only rebuilt in 1990 in order to be able to offer ten-minute intervals to Lichtenrade.

In the early 1950s, the freight yard was expanded and the name of the station was changed to Berlin-Marienfelde on August 1, 1952 .

In connection with the reconstruction of the long-distance tracks of the Dresdener Bahn in Berlin, a renovation of the Berlin-Marienfelde station is planned. In this context, barrier-free access to the platform is also to be implemented. The Senate Administration reported in 2013 that implementation was planned from 2016 to 2018, and the cost of the measure was estimated at 3 million euros. Deutsche Bahn anticipates implementation in the period 2021 to 2023. As a first measure, additional points were installed in June 2017.

The Marienfelde electronic interlocking went into operation on April 3, 2018 . It controls the track systems that continue to be operated in joint traffic by S-Bahn and long-distance trains (freight traffic). In addition to the new train control system ZBS who continue to come punctual train control (PZB) are used. The parking area extends from Attilastraße station to Lichtenrade station.

Traffic history

Memorial to the memory of the world speed record

Between 1901 and 1904, between Berlin-Marienfelde and Zossen, various high-speed tests with electric locomotives and railcars were carried out on the Royal Prussian Military Railway . These vehicles were powered by three-phase alternating current of 6 to 14  kilovolts and variable frequency (25-50 Hz). Power was supplied via three overhead lines arranged one above the other.

On October 28, 1903, the AEG test railcar set a new world record with 210.2 km / h . A plaque at the train station today commemorates this record.

The freight station is located southeast of the S-Bahn platform. Freight trains to the Südring and the transshipment facility of the Lankwitz oil port are routed via this station and the S-Bahn tracks .

Connection

The S-Bahn station is served by the S2 line of the Berlin S-Bahn and in 2006 had around 8,000 passengers a day. Large parts of Marienfelde are connected to the train station by bus lines .
