The Henschel DHG 700 C is a diesel-hydraulic locomotive that was built by the Henschel works . It was primarily intended for use in factory service. It has three axles driven by cardan shafts.

history

The designation was used for types of different model series. In the so-called fourth generation of diesel locomotives from 1962 onwards, a locomotive with the same design as the Henschel DHG 500 C was offered under this designation , with an enlarged engine with an output of 507 kW (690 hp). In this first version, 20 copies were made

In the fifth generation of Henschel locomotives offered from 1973 onwards, it was the three-axle standard locomotive. In contrast to its predecessor, this generation of locomotives had an angular structure both in the driver's cab and in the stems. In this second version, 55 copies were made. The locomotives mainly went to mining companies (Saarbergwerke: seven pieces) and steel producers as well as chemical companies, but also companies like Volkswagen (seven pieces). The usual color was no longer Henschel blue, but a pure orange with a yellow horizontal stripe on the stems.

Finally, there was also the sixth generation of the DHG 700 C. The chassis and superstructures were, as far as possible, taken over from the diesel-electric DE 500 C. Outwardly noticeable is the more spacious driver's cab with entrances at the front as well as more spacious maneuvering steps, as stipulated in the BDE specifications. Other suppliers had offered such types earlier, so that only five of this type were built in 1986/1987.

In addition to the superstructure, the frame had also changed compared to the previous model. The wheelbase was 300 mm larger, the axles no longer supported by leaf springs, but from 1975 onwards with helical and mega-springs. A disc brake was used instead of a block brake.

A Voith brake reversing gear was used as the gearbox , which had two converter gears and thus made a mechanical additional gearbox superfluous for changing gears .

The last DHG 700 C built was delivered to the Chemin de fer Orbe – Chavornay in Switzerland in 1985, where it was designated Em 3/3 no. As a mainline locomotive in the inventory of a public railroad, this locomotive - designed for use on industrial and port railways - can be viewed as a one-off.
