The Henschel DE 500 C is a diesel-electric locomotive that was built by the Henschel works . It was intended for use in the shunting service. Three-phase AC technology was used for the first time with the electric traction motors at Henschel. The wheel arrangement of the Henschel DE 500 C is Co.

The Henschel DE 500 C was built in only five copies between 1982 and 1984. Three of them went to Henrichshütte (Thyssen), one to Dillinger Hütte and one to Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB), where it was used as a demonstration locomotive 259 004 for just three months .

The series number 98 80 3605 was assigned for this type in the German Vehicle Settings Register.
