The Berlin-Pankow-Heinersdorf train station is a stop in the Berlin district of Pankow in the Berlin district of the same name . It was one of the first S-Bahn stations in Berlin to be served by electrically powered trains.
location
The station on the Szczecin Railway is located in the east of the Pankow district in the district of the same name . Beyond the extensive facilities of the former Berlin-Pankow marshalling yard to the east of the S-Bahn station, the district of Berlin-Heinersdorf begins . Berlin city center is about 7 km to the southwest as the crow flies . The federal motorway 114 , an extension of the Prenzlauer Promenade, crosses the station's facilities on a bridge. The Pankow train station is approximately 2 km south-west and the Blankenburg Railway Station about 1.6 kilometers to the northeast. The station is in the Berlin B tariff area of the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association .
In 1896 Heinersdorf was separated from Pankow. Since 1920 both villages belonged to Berlin. Initially, Heinersdorf was part of the new Pankow district, from 1986 Heinersdorf belonged to the Weißensee district . After the district reform in Berlin in 2001, Weißensee and Pankow were merged with Prenzlauer Berg to form the Pankow district.
history
The station on the Szczecin Railway was opened on October 1, 1893. A reception building was built between 1912 and 1916. The station is one of the first S-Bahn stations to be used by electrically powered trains, which happened on August 8, 1924. The electric trains went to Bernau and to the Stettiner Bahnhof, which is now called the Nordbahnhof .
Towards the end of April 1945 there were initially no more trains. On June 11, 1945, steam trains were first used and on August 13, 1945 they were replaced by the S-Bahn.
When the road bridge was built over the Prenzlauer Promenade , the platform was extended to the northeast in 1980. The extended platform went into operation on March 10, 1983. The old road bridge was dismantled in May 1982. On the north side of the station there was another access to the central platform , which was connected to the entrance to the Berlin-Pankow depot . In May 1984 the block attendant's office, who is also the platform supervisor, was set up in the newly constructed staircase.
The depot adjacent to the station with a water tower and roundhouse was shut down at the end of the 1990s.
