The Eichwalde station is a breakpoint in the municipality Eichwalde in Dahme-Spreewald , southeast of Berlin. It is served by lines S46 and S8 of the Berlin S-Bahn .

location

The station is about 750 m west of the center of Eichwalde. The Berlin city limits are around 500 m away. The adjacent streets are Heinrich-Heine-Allee and August-Bebel-Allee . The next station to the south is Zeuthen train station , about three kilometers away , and to the north, Berlin-Grünau train station , which is about five kilometers away. The station is located in tariff area C of the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association .

history

On June 1, 1874, the stop on the Görlitzer Bahn was opened as Schmöckwitz (Booth 18) . It had two side platforms and was about 150 m north of today's operating site. On July 1, 1898, the station was opened in its current location as Eichwalde-Schmöckwitz .

In 1934 the station was served by steam-powered trains every half hour. In 1935 the stop was renamed Eichwalde (Teltow district) .

After the Second World War , tracks in the station were dismantled. On June 21, 1945 the reopening for suburban traffic followed with one track. In June 1947 a crossing track was added. The electrification was fully completed on April 30, 1951. At the same time, the pedestrian tunnel was lengthened and a new entrance with two stairs was built on the western side. The platform height has been increased from 76 cm to 96 cm. The inauguration followed on May 1, 1951. The building in 1950/51 was financed , among other things, by the purchase of donation stamps from the Eichwald population.

Since the GDR closed the area outside Berlin to West Berliners on May 26, 1952, Eichwalde became a border checkpoint. For this reason, the S-Bahn had to wait around six minutes in Eichwalde. In May 1953 the addition to the name (Teltow district) was omitted . Since then, the station only bears the name Eichwalde . In the 1970s, the station was renovated, with parts of the old architectural style being covered. In the summer of 1989 the ailing platform roof was renewed. Due to a break in a roof support, the roof is no longer 94 m, but 89 m long.

In 2018, work began on creating barrier-free platform access. The pedestrian underpass will be modernized and the eastern and western entrances completely renewed. This will create ramps and an elevator to the platform. According to the original plan, the work should be completed in October 2019.

Investments

The stop has a central platform with two platform tracks. On the western side there are two through tracks, over which regional, long-distance passenger and freight traffic runs.
