history

Platform looking towards the city center with an incoming S-Bahn train on the S9 to Berlin-Schönefeld Airport, May 2018

As early as 1937, a station was planned between the Treptower Park and Baumschulenweg stations, which was to be named Dammweg . But the plan was not carried out. On June 3, 1956, the breakpoint opened under the name Plänterwald . A year later, the station building was put into operation, which to this day has only one exit in the northeast. The construction of a second entrance on the southwest side was rejected when the station was built. On the one hand this happened because there were only allotment gardens there, on the other hand because of the proximity to the border with West Berlin . Today consideration is being given to adding a second entrance to the station. A time for the implementation of this project is not yet known.

When the railway tracks between the Treptower Park and Baumschulenweg stations were renewed in 1999, the Plänterwald S-Bahn station was closed from May 31st to December 20th. During this time an escalator and an elevator were installed.

Connection

The S-Bahn station is served by lines S8, S85 and S9 of the Berlin S-Bahn . It is possible to change to bus routes 165, 166, 377, night routes N65 and N79 operated by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe .
