The Savignyplatz station is located on the Stadtbahn in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg . It is the youngest station on the Berlin Stadtbahn. The central platform under a gable roof on cast iron pillars and the open entrance hall are under monument protection . The station is currently served by the S-Bahn with lines S3, S5, S7 and S9. It has two entrances, one from a pedestrian zone from Savignyplatz via Else-Ury-Bogen and a second from Schlüterstraße .
history
The station was built in 1885/1886 on the typical Berlin S-Bahn arches in the middle of the then new residential area around Savignyplatz between the Zoologischer Garten and Charlottenburg stations . The opening took place on August 1, 1896.
In 1934 portals with the station name were attached to the two entrances to the station and the reception rooms were modernized. At the same time, the tram arches in this area were given a dark clinker brick facade.
Between 1986 and 1989, the section between Zoo station and Savignyplatz was extensively renovated, with the superstructure being completely renewed. The platforms and access structures were largely restored based on the historical model. Since then, the 100-meter-long Weltbaum II gallery has been located on the firewall next to the S-Bahn track to the west . Under the direction of the artist Ben Wagin - using discarded doors from S-Bahn cars of the type " Stadtbahn " - this art project was created to warn against environmental destruction . 18 different artists, including Joseph Beuys , took part in the gallery.
Since the end of 2015, train handling has been carried out by the driver using the driver's cab monitor (ZAT-FM).
