The Berlin Wuhletal station is an S and U-Bahn station in the Berlin district of Hellersdorf on the border of the districts of Biesdorf and Kaulsdorf in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district . It is located on the northern edge of the eponymous landscape park Wuhletal and is served by the U5 line of the Berlin underground and the S5 line of the Berlin S-Bahn . The facility is owned by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe and is there under the operating point abbreviation Whguided. For the S-Bahn, the abbreviation is BWT . Operationally, the northern platform track of the S-Bahn belongs to Kaulsdorf station, while the southern track still belongs to the free route.

Stop at the train station - unique in Berlin's local transport network - the underground and S-Bahn operate in one direction on the same platform. Other combined platforms between S-Bahn and U- (tram) trains exist in Germany only in Munich at Neuperlach Süd station , in Cologne -Chorweiler , in Leinfelden (near Stuttgart) and with the Konstablerwache in Frankfurt am Main .

History and structure

Unique in Berlin: S-Bahn and U-Bahn share the same platform
The train station, 2013

The station planned as Kaulsdorf-West by the design and surveying company of the German State Railroad (EVDR) was built in the course of the eastward extension of the former line E, which began in 1985, to develop the large housing estate Hellersdorf and together with the other stations on the line to Hönow on July 1, 1989 opened. The station is located on the embankment of the existing S-Bahn on the Ostbahn line , which crosses the VnK line used for the U-Bahn . The embankment is crossed by the Wuhle and two pedestrian tunnels.

The U-Bahn uses the two middle tracks, the S-Bahn the two outer ones. The subway thus has two outer platforms , the S-Bahn has a central platform divided lengthways by the subway . Trains go into town on the northern platform and out of town on the southern platform. Due to the fact that the platforms are shared by the U- and S-Bahn, it is 160 meters long and is the longest in the entire Berlin subway network.

The only connecting track between the Berlin U-Bahn and the Deutsche Bahn network is located southwest of the station .

Until 2013, the train destination displays with glass panes from the opening time were still available on the S-Bahn tracks . The subway tracks are equipped with electronic DAISY indicators with light-emitting diodes , as have the S-Bahn tracks since 2013.

At the eastern entrance to the train station there is a free P + R facility to enable a smooth transition between your own vehicle and public transport .

Connection

In addition to the S5 and U5 lines, the station is served by the bus lines 191 and 291 as well as the night lines N5, N69, N90, N91 and N95 of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe.
