It lies at the eastern end of the shopping street Zeil under the same name, and is used by the S-Bahn - S8 and S9 lines S1-S6, and the metro -lines U4-U7 approached. Tram lines 12 and 18 run at street level. Konstablerwache station is also the central hub for all night bus routes .

The rapid transit junction consists of two stations, a three-track underground station on the B line (lines U4 and U5) under Kurt-Schumacher-Strasse and a four-track shared station for S-Bahn and U-Bahn under the Zeil, which is part of the C- Line (U6 / U7) and the city tunnel of the S-Bahn. Including the tram, the Konstablerwache has nine platform tracks.

history

The D-level with platform 3 for the S-Bahn (right) and platform 4 for the underground (left)

Already at the beginning of the 20th century the Konstablerwache was one of the central hubs of the Frankfurt tram .

The underground station complex was built from 1966. The first component was opened in 1974 as part of the B1 light rail line (today's U5). The other parts had already been built in the shell at that time, including a section of a planned but never realized Zeil road tunnel.

The Zeil Tunnel was opened in 1983 and the S-Bahn lines that had ended at the Hauptwache since 1978 were extended to the Konstablerwache. The express train junction went into full operation in 1986 with the opening of the U6 and U7 underground lines (C line).

After the tram had completely disappeared from Konstablerwache in 1978 and temporarily ended in Große Friedberger Straße , the first new line since the start of the underground construction on Kurt-Schumacher- and Konrad-Adenauer-Straße was inaugurated in 1999 . The route is used by line 12, which then merges with the old town route . Since 2011, the new line 18 has also been running via Konstablerwache.

Opening dates:

  • U-Bahnhof B-line: May 26th 1974 (the track towards Bornheim only from May 31st, 1980)
  • S-Bahn station: 1983
  • C-line underground station: October 11, 1986
  • Tram: September 17, 1999

Distribution level

Like the Hauptwache station, the Konstablerwache transport hub has an extensive distribution level, known as the B level . In addition to the actual purpose of accessing the platforms, it also serves primarily as a shopping arcade and street underpass. A section of a planned road tunnel in north-south direction is also located here as a preliminary construction work, but this was never realized.

Railway station on the B line

One floor below, on the C level , is the three-track station for the U4 and U5 underground lines . The western track (track C1) is used by line U5 in the direction of the main train station , the middle track (track C3) is used by line U4 in the direction of Bockenheimer Warte . The eastern track (track C2) is shared by both lines in the direction of Preungesheim (U5) and Seckbacher Landstraße / Enkheim (U4).

Station of the C-route and the S-Bahn

Below, in the so-called D-level , the S-Bahn and the underground lines U6 and U7 run . S-Bahn and U-Bahn share two island platforms so that you can change from the S-Bahn to the U-Bahn and vice versa on the same platform. The two outer tracks (tracks 1 and 4) are used by the subway, the two inner ones (tracks 2 and 3) by the S-Bahn. The text on the walls is a Frankfurt council resolution of July 15, 1756, which warns citizens of the consequences of excessive alcohol consumption:

"After a highly noble and highly wise advice, it seemed extremely annoying and arduous here that, especially on Sunday, excessive indulgence and carousing, all kinds of quarrels, arguments and brawls, even a riot and near tumult, were caused: by virtue of this edict and notice, all and every local burgers, beers and residents are strongly cautioned to refrain from excessive drinking and carousing, especially on Sundays and Feyer's days. "

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the city partnership between Frankfurt and Lyon , the French artist group CitéCréation created a large-scale work of art in the subway station together with its Potsdam subsidiary CreativeStadt . Several illusionistic works of art were created on 500 square meters of the station wall under the theme “Travel in space and time” . They show different motifs from both cities, which are connected with a fictitious means of transport. The work was unveiled on June 11, 2010 in the presence of Lyon's Lord Mayor Gérard Collomb and City Councilor Volker Stein .

“A moment of time travel in a fictional subway, an optical illusion staged by lighting technology. […] The picture 'Journey in Space and Time' in the Frankfurt Konstablerwache subway shows the stock exchanges in both cities, the Frankfurt Museum Bank Festival and the Festival of Lights that enchants Lyon in December. The Lumière and Goethe brothers are waiting on the platform . Oh yes, the sponsors from both cities are on the train. "
