The station Langen (Hess) is in Langen (Hessen) on the 1846 opened Main-Neckar Railway (km 13.8 / 67.6). The station has two outer platforms and a central platform as well as a through track. The station building and the platform roofs are under monument protection.

history

The station was established in 1846 as part of the construction of the Main-Neckar Railway . The first section between Langen, Darmstadt and Heppenheim went into operation on June 22, 1846 , the section from Langen to Frankfurt am Main followed on July 16, 1846. As part of the construction of the S-Bahn line from Frankfurt to Darmstadt, June 1997 opened, there was a major redesign of the station. Since then, he has had three platforms for four tracks and a through track in the direction of Darmstadt. Likewise, the underpass south of the reception building - not to be confused with the existing urban pedestrian underpass at the end of Bahnstrasse - was replaced by an underpass north of the building. In 2012 the tracks in the station area were renewed.

An 82 square meter Deutsche Bahn service store has been in the station since 2009, which is operated by a franchisee and also sells RMV tickets. Up until the beginning of 2017, an integrated travel center counter was open within the service store at certain opening times , which was then manned by railway staff. The former counter hall in the station building is closed. The station has 361 bicycle parking spaces, including 50 lockable bicycle boxes .

Reception building

Platform roof between the tracks

The two-storey station building with a basement was built in 1846 on the town side east of the route. The classicistic and symmetrically designed facade has seven axes on the eaves . On the ground floor, coupled arched windows frame coupled arched portals in the middle. On the other hand, there are rectangular windows on the upper floor.

The street front is also structured by a gabled central risalit . A hipped roof over a wide frieze and tooth cut forms the upper end. The platform roof in front of the station building is supported by lattice girders from the construction period on thin supports with narrow capitals made of cast iron. The station building and the platform hall are under monument protection .

The two platform halls standing free on the platforms, which also have cast-iron columns with capitals, are dated to 1861. They come from the Darmstadt Main-Neckar train station, which was dismantled after the First World War, and are also listed.

Rail transport

Since the timetable change in December 2017, the regional express trains have been running daily and repeater trips are being used between Frankfurt and Darmstadt. This means that there is a half-hourly connection from Langen train station with regional trains to Frankfurt and Darmstadt main stations.

Between December 2017 and December 2018 (Mon-Sat) the regional express line RE 68 between Frankfurt and Darmstadt ran increasingly when the regional express line RE 60 was not running.

There are also lines S3 and S4 of the Rhein-Main S-Bahn , which provide direct connections to Darmstadt (every half hour), Frankfurt (every quarter of an hour) and Kronberg im Taunus and Bad Soden am Taunus .

The station has no scheduled long-distance passenger rail services .
