The Bad Soden (Taunus) train station in Bad Soden am Taunus is the northern terminus of the Soden Railway and the Limes Railway .

Location and inventory

Platform with S3 to Darmstadt Hbf

The train station is in the center of Bad Soden am Taunus. The station building was built in 1847. The middle part of the building has been preserved from this period. The southern gable wing and the shed built to the north are additions from the second decade of the last century. The reception building is a cultural monument according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act . For a long time there was a goods shed opposite the platform with its own siding . These systems have been continuously dismantled in recent years.

history

The Bad Soden station was opened on May 22, 1847 as the terminus of the Soden Railway . This connected Soden with the next largest town, Höchst . There was a connection to the Taunus Railway from Frankfurt am Main to Wiesbaden, which opened in 1839 . The line, including all facilities, was taken over by the Prussian State Railroad on May 3, 1872 .

In the course of the connection to the Rhein-Main S-Bahn , the expansion to today's form with two tracks was completed in 1978. At the same time, the station was connected to a second, newly built line from Frankfurt via Eschborn and Schwalbach for S-Bahn traffic. As part of the redesign of the area around the station in 2010 and 2011, the platform track of line S3 was shortened and now ends at the level of the entrance from the bus station .

In 2011 the building was bought by the Messer Group and renovated in 2013 for 3.5 million euros. The interior was completely gutted and renovated. The company will set up its staff canteen here.

Connection

The S-Bahn - S3 line ( Limes Railway ) connects Bad Soden and Darmstadt via Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof . From 1979 to 1997 they connected Bad Soden with Frankfurt-Höchst . This route, the Sodener Bahn , has been operated since 1997 - despite the existing overhead line - by diesel multiple units of the series VT 2E , rarely also LINT , of the Frankfurt-Königsteiner Eisenbahn and operates in the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund as regional train line RB 11.

future

Since the S3 line between Niederhöchstadt and Bad Soden is only a single track, this allows a maximum of 30 minutes. The construction of an additional platform is therefore being discussed in the city parliament of Bad Soden to enable 15-minute intervals. The station forecourt and bus station are also to be redesigned as part of a new car park; an architecture competition has already been held for this purpose.
