Frankfurt (Main) Lokalbahnhof is an important junction for local public transport in Frankfurt am Main . The station is located in the Sachsenhausen district and is served by the Rhein-Main S-Bahn , Frankfurt tram and bus routes. The name of the station goes back to the old Frankfurt-Offenbacher local railway , which had its Frankfurt terminus, the " local station ", in the neighborhood from 1848 to 1955 - with interruptions at the end of the First and Second World Wars .

In 1990 the S-Bahn station was built. It is located about 250 meters south of the former location of the historic local train station and today's tram station. It is approached by the S-Bahn lines that come from the city ​​center in the direction of Südbahnhof (S3 – S6).

A curiosity is that in this S-Bahn station, named after the former station of the local railway leading to Offenbach am Main, all S-Bahn lines of the City Tunnel stop, with the exception of those that go to / via Offenbach.
