The Frankfurt-Griesheim station is an important depot for rail traffic in Frankfurt am Main and a passenger station . Here begins - around five kilometers west of the reception building - the large and up to 600 meters wide platform apron of Frankfurt Central Station .

General

The station was set up in 1877 by the Hessian Ludwigsbahn on the Main-Lahn-Bahn in the north of the center of Griesheim . The station building, which still exists today, was built in 1968. The passenger station itself is now only used for S-Bahn traffic. It is served by the S1 ( Wiesbaden Hbf - Rödermark-Ober Roden ) and S2 ( Niedernhausen - Dietzenbach ) lines. The station has an island platform and a side platform, i.e. three platform tracks.

Shortly after the train station there is a branch to the DB long-distance maintenance hall. From the maintenance hall you can reach the parking station and the municipal connecting railway . On the connecting line today, the HFM Managementgesellschaft für Hafen und Markt mbH, occasionally trains from the Historic Railway Frankfurt (HEF) with steam and diesel locomotives, as well as rail buses , operate handover trips in freight and passenger traffic .

There is also a connection from the maintenance hall to a steel / concrete plant and a recycling center.

From 1930 until the Rhein-Main S-Bahn began operating in 1978, the station was also served by trams on line 14 .

Two bus stops are available for urban bus transport. City bus lines 54 (Griesheim Bahnhof – Sindlingen Friedhof) and 59 (Griesheim Erzbergerstraße– Nied - Höchst - Unterliederbach Cheruskerweg) stop on the southern side of the station . Line 59 also stops on the north side of the station ( Griesheim Bahnhof / Eichenstraße stop ). Line 52 (Griesheim Jägerallee – Gallus Schloßborner Straße), which provides a direct connection to the Gallus district, also stops there on weekdays .

Urban environment

Reception building and bus stop

The train station is now in the middle of the largest district in the west of Frankfurt , between the Main and Mainzer Landstrasse . To the south is the historic core area of Griesheim, to the north are the new housing estates from the mid- 20th century , part of which is the Espenstrasse settlement . A bridge to the east and a railroad crossing to the west connect the two quarters.

The adjacent Autogenstraße is built on the opposite side with buildings from the Wilhelminian era. Residential houses were also built on the side of the station after Deutsche Bahn had removed several shunting tracks and the freight yard .

Operational

Griesheim is on the course book route 627 ( Main-Lahn-Bahn ). The regional and long-distance uses the parallel Taunus Railway (KBS 645.1), in the case of operational disturbances can, however, be diverted via the Griesheim route. Both lines starting from the main train station meet again at Frankfurt-Höchst train station .

The Rhein-Main S-Bahn depot was also located east of the station, with car hangars, washing facilities and workshops. After this moved to the former post station , the Griesheim depot is responsible for the maintenance of the ICE 3 , ICE 3M and ICE T and the DB Regio trains.

West of the train station is a workshop of the Hessian state railway .

The Frankfurt-Griesheim train station is the start and destination station of the "wash trips " operated by DB Fernverkehr AG , ie for trips to the exterior and interior cleaning in Frankfurt-Höchst.

The station is operated remotely from the Frankfurt operations center. The old Griesheim push button interlocking on track 1 now serves as an operating room.

On February 17, 2017, ICE 78730 collided with the end of the track on the 2017 track of the station. The leading end car derailed and came to a stop on the adjacent platform. The cause was a lack of care on the part of the driver, which led to the braking being initiated too late.
