Espenstrasse and Waldschulstrasse connect the settlement to the regional road network. The inner development takes place via the streets Schwarzerlenweg, Kiefernstraße and Am Mühlgewann.

Emergence

Numerous housing estates were built in Frankfurt am Main in order to meet the high demand for housing in the post-war period . The Espenstrasse settlement was built between 1958 and 1962 with funds from social housing by the non-profit society for dormitories and workers' housing (Wohnheim GmbH or ABG Frankfurt Holding ) and the Federal Railroad Housing Association (BWG). 133 buildings with 1144 apartments were built. At the end of 2008, 3,100 people lived in the settlement.

description

The Espenstrasse settlement is designed as a purely residential area. It mainly consists of rows of buildings that run in a north-south direction, so that the apartments face east and west. On the south side of Espenstrasse, the residential buildings are arranged alongside the street. Generous green corridors structure the settlement. The buildings are mainly three or four storeys with a gabled roof covered. In the southwest there are two high-rise buildings with thirteen and eight floors.

Infrastructure

The Espenstraße settlement has social facilities as well as parks and allotment gardens. The Berthold-Otto-Schule in Kiefernstrasse is the primary school for the residential area and the Georg-August-Zinn-Schule in the street Am Mühlgewann is an integrated comprehensive school. Two church and municipal childcare facilities are spread across the settlement. The Griesheim town hall with library, which serves the entire district, is located on the southwestern edge of the settlement. There are three allotment gardens in the northeast . Playgrounds are spread across the entire settlement within the green spaces. An adventure playground is on Kiefernstrasse.
