Dietzenbach Bahnhof is a train station in Dietzenbach in Hesse and the end point of the Offenbach-Bieber – Dietzenbach railway . The station building is a listed building .

Unlike the official operating account name is Dietzenbach station today operationally only one break point and station part of the station Dietzenbach Mitte . Today the station serves exclusively the S-Bahn traffic.

history

The Dietzenbacher Bahnhof was opened on December 1, 1898 under the name Dietzenbach (Hessen) together with the Offenbach-Bieber – Dietzenbach railway, a branch of the Rodgau Railway . With the start of operation of the entire route, public transport began here. Workers and craftsmen used the connection to commute to their workplaces in Offenbach and Frankfurt, the local farmers benefited from faster transport to the markets of the big cities.

After the Second World War , traffic to Dietzenbach flourished - as it turned out to be only brief. In 1959 there were 25 daily train connections to Offenbach, in 1978 there were only five trains running. On June 18, 1982, passenger traffic to Dietzenbach was finally completely stopped, and a few years later the express cargo and rail baggage handling. The track system was not dismantled and was preserved.

For the 2003/2004 timetable change on December 14, 2003, the former Dietzenbach (Hessen) station , now Dietzenbach Bahnhof , was converted into a barrier-free stop and the traffic on the S-Bahn line S2 (Niedernhausen - Dietzenbach) of the S-Bahn Rhein-Main was opened recorded the route. The siding was also dismantled and the train station was degraded to a stopping point, since then it has been used exclusively as the terminus for trains to Niedernhausen via the Offenbach and Frankfurt City Tunnels , Höchst and Hofheim .

Infrastructure

The listed entrance building , built in 1898, is an eaves-standing brick building with a side elevation on both sides at the southern end . These are connected by a continuous roof ridge and have a triangular gable. This is followed by a flat goods shed with a covered ramp. The building is now privately owned.

The stop has a barrier-free house platform on a stump track that ends south of the reception building in front of Max-Planck-Straße . The other tracks were dismantled as part of the S-Bahn upgrade.

business

The S-Bahn runs every 30 minutes. During rush hour , this basic cycle is compressed to a 15-minute cycle.

Bus transport

The OF-57 city bus runs from the Dietzenbach train station to the Dietzenbach Mitte S-Bahn station , and occasionally to the Dietzenbach-Steinberg S-Bahn station .

Expansion plans

Since the start of operations, there have been plans to extend the route beyond Dietzenbach. So Dietzenbach should not remain the end point of the route. In 1906 and again in 1913 a continuation to Messel was discussed, but the First World War ruined all plans.

After the S-Bahn started operating in 2003, there was talk of expanding the line and allowing the S-Bahn to run via the Rödermark-Urberach station, where there is a connection to the Dreieichbahn in the direction of Buchschlag , to the central Rödermark-Ober Roden station. However, this project failed due to a lack of profitability and so Dietzenbach has remained the end point of the route to this day.
