The Rödermark-Ober Roden train station is located in the Ober-Roden district of the Hessian city of Rödermark in the Offenbach district . It is assigned to station category 4 and represents a local junction in public transport . The reception building is a listed building.

history

Rödermark-Ober Roden train station in 1906.

In 1896, Ober-Roden was connected to the railway network with the Rodgaubahn , which runs from Offenbach (Main) Hauptbahnhof via Ober-Roden to Dieburg on the Main-Rhine Railway. In the course of this, the first part of today's reception building was built. In 1905 the Dreieich Railway was added via Urberach to Buchschlag on the Main-Neckar Railway .

In 1997 the modernization of the Dreieichbahn began. Platforms and tracks were rebuilt and the construction of a platform underpass prepared.

After the Rodgau-Bahn was expanded into an S-Bahn in 2003, the station was fundamentally rebuilt. The platform access, previously realized by a track bridge, has given way to a barrier-free underpass. From now on, it was possible to switch to bus traffic directly on the house platform with platform 1 of the S-Bahn. The platforms of tracks 2-4 are connected to the underpass by stairs and elevators. There is a side platform on platform 2 between platform 1 and 2, and a central platform between platform 3 and 4.

There are sidings in the western and southern area of the station.

In the third quarter of 2013, the conversion of the station forecourt into a sizable city tree began. In the course of this, the station building was renovated and revitalized. Various residential and shopping areas were created in the building. An annex for a restaurant was built on the site of the former northern building extension.

Today's operation

The Ober-Roden station is in the tariff area of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) and is served by S-Bahn and regional trains as well as several bus and night bus routes.

Rail transport

The station is served by 173 trains from Monday to Friday:

  • The S-Bahn - S1 starts here on Offenbach am Main, and Frankfurt main station to Wiesbaden central station ; During rush hour there is a 15-minute cycle, with the amplifier trains only running to Hochheim am Main .
  • The Dreieichbahn trains run every hour between Ober-Roden and Dieburg or Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof and also every hour between Ober-Roden and Dreieich-Buchschlag / Neu-Isenburg, so that there is a connection every half an hour. In the morning rush hour, individual trains running to Frankfurt Hbf condense to a 15-minute cycle. (As of 2019)

The change from the bus to the S-Bahn was solved with the shortest possible distances. The platform on departure track 1 of the S-Bahn also serves as a bus platform on the other side. The barrier-free transfer route is only about five meters.

  • Various bus lines stop on the east side of the station and connect Ober-Roden with the surrounding area:

Expansion plans

There are current efforts to extend the S2 to Ober Roden or via Ober Roden to Dieburg. Already after the S-Bahn started operating in 2003, there was talk of having the railway line from Dietzenbach via Rödermark-Urberach station, where there is a connection to the Dreieichbahn towards Buchschlag , to Rödermark-Ober Roden station. However, this project failed due to a lack of profitability. This is currently being re-examined.

A continuation of the S-Bahn line 1 to Dieburg also failed due to the inadequate cost-benefit ratio.

There is also interest in integrating the Dreieichbahn into the concept of the West regional bypass. For Ober Roden train station, this would mean a direct connection to Frankfurt Airport.

Both now and in the past, discussions have been held about expanding the Dreieichbahn (at least in part) to double tracks, electrifying it and upgrading it to the S-Bahn.
