The Frankfurt-Frankfurter Berg train station is located on the Main-Weser Railway and serves the Frankfurt district of the same name . The station was called Frankfurt-Bonames until 1986 .

history

The station was built for what was then the village of Bonames , which is about 1500 meters away. In local traffic, Bonames was later better developed by the tram between Frankfurt and Bad Homburg (today's U2 metro line ). The current station building was built between 1911 and 1914 and is oriented towards the village. It is a neo-baroque building and is a cultural monument according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act . The station used to be a tariff point for heavy goods traffic . Here on the existed siding of a color leather work. In the station in the late 1950s and early 1960s was frequently a hospital train of the United States Army stopped. After the ticket and baggage counters were closed, the reception building housed the Marcomannia Frankfurt Technical Connection from 1992 to 2015 .

business

Today the station is served exclusively by the S6 S-Bahn line of the Rhein-Main S-Bahn . There is a passing track between the two main tracks. In addition to the house platform, there is therefore a central platform that can only be reached from the house platform through a pedestrian underpass . The newly developed Frankfurter Berg district to the south can be reached by pedestrians through a second pedestrian underpass, which, however, has no access to the platform. This limited usability of the facilities for the handicapped is to be removed as part of the four-track expansion of the Main-Weser Railway between the Frankfurt West and Bad Vilbel stations.

Transport links

The station is located directly on the Homburger Landstrasse, which, because of the railway line, makes a loop to cross the tracks on a bridge. The shuttle service to the train station is provided by bus route 27, with which the connection to Bonames, which was once named, is guaranteed, although the bus connection has only existed since the 1990s.

There are plans to link the S-Bahn station with an U5 extended over Homburger Landstrasse .
