The station Frankfurt-Niederrad is a train station and a breakpoint in the southwest of Frankfurt am Main in the district of Niederrad .
history
The station was laid out in the course of the construction of the Niederräder Bridge in 1882. The historic station building has been preserved.
From 1977 onwards, as part of the construction of the S-Bahn, the station was relocated around 700 meters further south to Lyoner Strasse . The first train station was abandoned in 1979.
From September 1996 to May 2006, the station was also part of the long-distance network of Deutsche Bahn. On weekdays there was an ICE or later an IC coming from Mannheim for commuters.
New facility
The new station was built in an elevated position above Adolf-Miersch-Strasse and Lyoner Strasse . In its new location, it enables a direct transition to the tram . Both platforms can be reached from the street via elevators and stairs. The station belongs to category 3. It has four platform tracks on the Mainbahn and Riedbahn . All trains that run via Frankfurt-Niederrad cross the two Niederräder bridges north of the station: the old and the new Niederräder bridge .
Connection
The station is served by Regional Express trains and S-Bahn lines S7, S8 and S9 . The IC , EC and ICE trains run through the Riedbahn. A few years ago, some InterCity trains also stopped during off-peak times.
Below the station you can change to the tram lines 12 and 19 (only runs at certain times) as well as the bus lines 78, 79 (only runs in the morning and Mon-Fri) and 84.
