Career
Club career
Petkovic began his active career as a football goalkeeper at Spearwood Dalmatinac, an amateur club from Spearwood , a southern suburb of Perth. He began his professional career in 1994 with the Perth Kangaroos , who played overseas in the Singapore FAS Premier League that year. A year later he returned to his youth club and played a few games there again. From 1995 to 1999 Petkovic was in the squad of South Melbourne FC . For the club from the Australian National Soccer League , he completed 105 league games by the time he left. In 1999 he transferred to Racing Strasbourg as a substitute goalkeeper in France , but did not appear in the league. Just a year later, he was re-accepted by his former club South Melbourne FC after he had recently made a few appearances for Cockburn City SC in the Football West State League . From the 2000/01 to 2001/02 season, he completed 56 league appearances for the club from Melbourne . During this time he was awarded to Norway for Lillestrøm SK , but could not prevail and had to go back to Australia without having played a single game.
In the summer break before the 2002/03 season , Petkovic signed a contract with the Turkish club Trabzonspor , where he stood in a total of 85 championship games between the posts until 2005. Before the start of the 2005/06 season , another change followed Petkovics. His next stop was the club Sivasspor, also playing in the Süper Lig. On March 9, 2008 he scored his first professional goal in the game against MKE Ankaragücü in the 41st minute of the game after a tee.
International
Petkovic made his debut for the Australian national team in February 2001 in the 3-2 away defeat against the Colombian national team in Bogotá . He played his other games against American Samoa (2001), Samoa (2001), Tunisia (2005) and Denmark (2007).
