Arūnas Degutis (born July 26, 1958 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian manager and politician , Member of the European Parliament (2004–2009).

Life

Degutis studied from 1976 at the Faculty of Economic Cybernetics and Finance at Vilnius University and graduated there in 1981. He was editor of the “ Sąjūdis News” (published by the Lithuanian independence movement) , in 1984 a member of the Control and Audit Committee of the Lithuanian Cooperative Association and in 1988 a member of the “Sąjūdis” Council of Vilnius .

Degutis was a member of the Lithuanian Reconstituting Parliament ( Seimas ) from 1990 to 1992 and was a signatory of the Lithuanian Declaration of Independence on March 11, 1990. Between 1992 and 1993 he worked as a project manager at " Canadian AGRA / AGRA AG" and from 1995 to 1999 he was a member of the American Chamber of Commerce. In addition, Degutis was employed as an advisor to the mayor of Vilnius Municipality in 2000 and worked as an advisor to the Lithuanian Prime Minister on foreign investment issues in 1999 and 2001 . From 2004 to 2007 he was a member of the Council of Darbo Partija , through which he also entered the European Parliament. After the turmoil within the party, Degutis left the party in 2007. He was a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe .

Since 1999 he has headed the association Lietuvos orlaivių savininkų ir pilotų asociacija.
