Infostar
The Infostar civil status register is a database developed and operated by the IT Service Center of the Federal Department of Justice and Police (ISC-FDJP) on behalf of the Federal Office of Justice under the direction of the Infostar (FIS) department and supervised by the Federal Office for Civil Status (EAZW). in which, since January 1, 2005, all civil status events of the Swiss resident population and of Swiss abroad have been recorded. The legal bases for this are the civil code and the civil status ordinance.
Thus were the traditional, in the civil registry office run single register of birth, marriage, death and child acknowledgments (s a Germany:.. Civil status ), cantonal databases and the family register to the hometowns replaced. Multiple entries of the same data at the place of the marital status event and at the (possibly several) hometowns were thereby eliminated. If the civil status events and family relationships were still listed “by family” in the old family registers, this is now done individually. The data is only entered by the civil status authorities.
In addition to the civil status authorities, the following offices have access to Infostar : the issuing authorities in accordance with the Federal Law on ID Cards for Swiss Citizens and the federal offices that are responsible for maintaining the automated search system Ripol and the automated criminal record Vostra as well as investigating missing persons.
