The Riedstadt-Goddelau station is a category 4 station and the most important station in the southern Hessian town of Riedstadt . It is served hourly by regional trains and is the terminus of line S7 of the Rhein-Main S-Bahn .
history
The station was put into operation on April 15, 1869 under the name Goddelau-Erfelden . Then as now it served the two districts of Riedstadt, Goddelau and Erfelden .
On May 29, 1869, the line from Darmstadt Hbf via Goddelau and Biblis to the Rosengarten station , which was on the opposite side of the Rhine from Worms , was officially opened by Reinhard Carl Friedrich von Dalwigk, Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . In October 1879 the line via Mannheim-Waldhof was extended to Mannheim's Neckarstadt, where it ended not in Mannheim's main train station , but in Riedbahnhof (north of today's Kurpfalzbrücke ). Continuous trains have been running from Worms to Frankfurt since November 1879, and from Mannheim to Frankfurt since 1880. At the end of 1970 the double-track section Goddelau-Erfelden-Darmstadt was shut down due to a lack of passengers.
In the course of the incorporation of the then double community of Goddelau-Wolfskehlen into the newly founded town of Riedstadt , the Goddelau-Erfelden train station was renamed Riedstadt-Goddelau on January 1, 1977 .
Reception building
The station building was erected in 1869 as a type building east of the railway line on the eaves. It is a two-storey sandstone building money with a wide basement fries and a windowsill. A waiting room and a service room were arranged on the ground floor, separated by a roofed central riser . Next to the main building there is a goods shed made of sandstone on the north side, and an eaves-mounted operations building on the south. This building is a cultural monument according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act .
Track systems
The station has five platforms. Main tracks 3 and 4 can be used by long-distance trains at speeds of up to 200 km / h. To the south of the station there are up to eleven parallel tracks, which are used, among other things, for parking and disposition and as a turning system for the S-Bahn. There is also a rail connection to ARS Altmann Automobillogistik .
