The Darmstadt-Arheilgen train station is located in the Arheilgen district of the city of Darmstadt on the Main-Neckar-Bahn Frankfurt (Main) -Heidelberg and is now served by the S-Bahn every half hour.

history

With the opening of the Main-Neckar-Bahn in 1846, a “stop for passenger traffic” was set up several hundred meters north of today's stop to connect Wixhausen to the rail network. In 1876 goods traffic was started. After the reception building was built in 1894, the old station was given up.

On May 22, 1937, the station previously known as “Arheiligen” was renamed “Darmstadt-Arheiligen”.

By 1976 there were two mechanical interlockings that were replaced by a pushbutton interlocking .

Reception building

The two-storey entrance building from 1894 had a facade with restrained classical architectural decoration, a protruding saddle roof and was completely clad with sandstone . It was a standard type, identical to the station building in Darmstadt-Wixhausen . There is a variant of this type in Dreieich and there was in Egelsbach . The station building was torn down when the station was being converted for S-Bahn operations.

Infrastructure

Of the four existing tracks, three are used for long-distance and regional traffic, the fourth for the Rhein-Main S-Bahn for both directions.

On the occasion of the renovation for the S-Bahn service, the station forecourt was renewed and a Park + Ride car park was set up. There is a bus stop on the station forecourt which is part of the Darmstadt local transport network .

business

In 1994 the S-Bahn (S-Bahn) traffic on the S3 line began every half hour to Darmstadt Hauptbahnhof and Bad Soden via Langen and Frankfurt am Main . The facility had previously been rebuilt. A barrier-free platform was built for the S-Bahn a little south of the platforms previously used. Other traffic than the S-Bahn no longer stops here today. The journey time to Frankfurt city center is around 30 minutes, and that to Darmstadt Central Station around five minutes.
