Darmstadt-Wixhausen train station
The breakpoint Darmstadt-Wixhausen is located on the Main-Neckar Railway and serves the Darmstadt district Darmstadt-Wixhausen as S-Bahn -Stop.
history
The Wixhausen station was subsequently built on the Main-Neckar Railway, which was built in 1843-46 .
On October 25, 1937, a pedestrian underpass was put into operation between the two outer platforms that existed at the time .
When the S-Bahn went into operation in 1994, the station was given up and the stop, which only serves the new S-Bahn track that runs parallel to the existing line, was put into operation.
Reception building
architecture
The two-storey station building that is preserved today was built around 1887. It is made of sandstone and has a large overhanging gable roof . The facade was provided with restrained classical architectural decoration. The building is a type construction. It was identical to the no longer existing station building in Arheilgen . A variant of this type is in Dreieich and another was in Egelsbach .
The reception building is a cultural monument due to the Hessian Monument Protection Act .
use
The reception building has belonged to the city of Darmstadt since 2000 and is used for cultural purposes under the name Bahnhof Wixhausen or Kunstbahnhof . It currently houses artist studios ( Kunstfabrik eV).
traffic
Today the stop has only one platform on the single-track S-Bahn line. It is used exclusively by trains of the Rhein-Main S-Bahn and its S 3 line.
