Hönow underground station
The Hönow underground station is the eastern terminus of the U5 line on the Berlin underground . It is named after the neighboring town of Hönow , to whose area the train station still belonged at the time it was built. Since the area adjustments in the course of German reunification , it is now in the Berlin district of Hellersdorf . His code according to BVG scheme is Hö and it is in the VBB -Tarifzone B . The station was inaugurated on June 30, 1989 after around four years of construction. The next morning, starting at 4:38 a.m., the first regular train from Hönow ran on the new line through the Hellersdorf development area.
Location and structure
The underground station is located on the eastern Berlin city limits to the Hönow district of the Hoppegarten community . To the north, Böhlener Straße runs parallel to the platform, and to the south of the platforms is a parking facility for the underground. The eastern exit, which marks the border between the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg, leads to Mahlsdorfer Strasse.
The facility includes a side and middle platform with three tracks for passenger traffic, the side platform is not regularly used. In addition to the exit to Mahlsdorfer Straße, there is a footbridge at the western end of the platform with exits to Böhlener Straße and the parking area. Various functional buildings complete the facility. The station's identification color is gray.
The parking facility can be accessed from both Hönow and the neighboring Louis-Lewin-Straße underground station . Originally it had 17 sidings with a normal length of 120 meters. There was also space for an optional extension of the system. The facility, which has since been partially dismantled, was used to park the amplifier trains to Hönow. Since the traffic fell sharply after the political change , these capacities were no longer needed.

At the underground station you can change from line U5 to bus line 395 operated by BVG and 941 and 943 operated by mobus Märkisch-Oderland Bus GmbH.
