The Strausberg Nord station is located in the city of Strausberg in the district Oderland . It is the terminus of the Strausberg – Strausberg Nord railway line and the terminus of the S5 line of the Berlin S-Bahn .

location

The terminus on the Strausberg – Strausberg Nord route is in the north of Strausberg. The center of the city is about two kilometers to the southwest, Straussee about one kilometer to the west and Berlin city center about 33 kilometers to the west as the crow flies . The next station on the route, Strausberg Stadt train station , is located around 2.25 kilometers southwest. The Strausberg Nord train station is on the streets Am Flugplatz and Prötzeler Chaussee . The station belongs to the Berlin C tariff area of the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association .

history

The Barracked People's Police , the predecessor of the National People's Army (NVA) of the GDR, had moved their headquarters from Berlin-Adlershof to Strausberg in June 1954 . Since the Strausberg train station was far south of the city, a branch line was built that opened up the army grounds in the north of the city of Strausberg. At the end of the route, the Strausberg Nord station was built, which went into operation on January 1, 1955. On June 3, 1956, as on the entire route, the connection to the direct current network of the Berlin S-Bahn followed. Up to this point, diesel trains were also used for passenger transport on the route.

In the first few years the S-Bahn trains commuted between Strausberg and Strausberg Nord, later the trains from Berlin ran continuously to Strausberg Nord. Because of a long single-track section, Strausberg Nord could only be served every 40 minutes. Since the timetable change in December 2015, the S-Bahn trains to Strausberg Nord have been running every 20 minutes, for which the section between Strausberg train station and the Hegermühle transfer point has been expanded almost continuously to double tracks.

Furthermore, the station also served the freight traffic for the location of the NVA and some local providers. However, this was discontinued in the 1990s.

Investments

The station has two platform tracks with a roofless central platform at the end of the S-Bahn tracks. In the entrance area of the station there is a sweeping and parking facility between the two tracks . Three connecting trains used to leave the station. As an extension of the route, an army site was served, the connections to a boiler house and a wholesale company branched off on both sides of the tracks in the direction of Berlin. The systems still exist, but are no longer used. There is also a small reception building , which is no longer used for railway purposes. Since 2007 there has been an inn with a restaurant in the building . It bears the name Gasthof Strausberg Nord .

The station is equipped with a total of 11 points and 13 signals. Since the opening, the systems have been operated by an electromechanical signal box of the VES 1912 design (with color disc monitoring).
