Walter Zrenner

Walter Zrenner (* 1914 in Vienna ; † 2009 ) was an Austrian poet , essayist, radio play author and translator.

Zrenner studied philology and received his doctorate. After the war he worked first as an interpreter, then as a high school teacher in Salzburg and then at the Theresianum in Vienna. In addition to his work as a teacher, he has published poetry, essays and radio plays. In 1957 he received the Georg-Trakl-Förderungspreis für Lyrik for his lyric work . He also translated from Latin. In 1987 he was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art for the translation of the neo-Latin poetry by Simon Rettenpacher .
