The Berlin-Wilhelmshagen station is a station of the Berlin S-Bahn located on the Lower Silesian-Märkische Bahn . It is located in the settlement Wilhelmshagen in the district Rahnsdorf the district Treptow-Koepenick and is the last station on the Berlin area on the suburban line to Erkner . It is served by the S3 S-Bahn line.
history
The station was opened on November 15, 1882 as Neu-Rahnsdorf . With the renovation of the Lower Silesian-Märkische Bahn, a new pair of long-distance tracks was created up to and including Erkner and the new line was brought to the embankment. The station, now only served by suburban traffic, was rebuilt in the course of this work by the architects Karl Cornelius and Waldemar Suadicani . A central platform with the typical Berlin structures was built. After completion of the work in 1902, the name was changed to Wilhelmshagen . The train station is now a listed building.
In 1908 the station tunnel was opened at the request and expense of the residents of Wilhelmshagen and the community of Woltersdorf .
The electric trains of the Berlin S-Bahn have stopped here since June 11, 1928, and mixed operation with steam trains ended in 1929. After the Second World War , the Soviet occupying forces dismantled both S-Bahn tracks. By freed up capacities and dismantling of tracks elsewhere - including the Prussian Eastern Railway - the line could initially be rebuilt as a single track in 1948. The resumption of electric S-Bahn traffic took place on November 2nd of this year. From 1957, the second track was rebuilt.
In January 2010, work began on replacing the platform roof and the lighting system and installing a guidance system for the blind. The modernization measures should be completed by September 2010, but did not end until the end of 2011.
The S-Bahn station has been controlled by an electronic interlocking since the end of 2015 , in the course of which it was equipped with the ZBS electronic train control system .
As part of the expansion of the Berlin - Frankfurt (Oder) long-distance line, the track and overhead line systems in the area of the Berlin-Wilhelmshagen train station have also been rebuilt and the pedestrian tunnel partially demolished and rebuilt at a greater height. It will be given two elevators to provide barrier-free access to the S-Bahn platform. During construction work, access is via a temporary pedestrian bridge; the north entrance is closed during this time. Due to errors in the approval process for the renewal of the pedestrian tunnel, the work that had started had to be interrupted for 2.5 years. After the resumption of construction work in March 2020, completion of the pedestrian tunnel including elevators is now planned for March 2021. The existing stairs at the main entrance will be reduced to a width of only 1.90 m, which has been heavily criticized. The railway justifies this with cost savings.
traffic
The station is served by the S3 line, which runs every 10 or 20 minutes between Erkner and Spandau during the day . In addition, the station is connected to the rest of the settlement area via bus route 161 from Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe .
