Karl Fischer (Author)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Fischer , pseudonym: Georg Alfred Vischer (* December 20, 1900 in Altona , † March 28, 1972 in Lobetal ) was a German writer, pastor and politician ( CDU ). From 1950 to 1958 he was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

Karl Fischer was raised Catholic. After studying theology, he became a pastor and worked in this position between 1924 and 1952 in Malchin , Parchim , Güstrow , Neubrandenburg and Neustrelitz . In addition, he was active as a writer and wrote several short stories.

In 1939 he had himself appointed as a military chaplain and thus gained access to the Fünfeichen prisoner of war camp . In Neubrandenburg and Berlin he is said to have organized the resistance against National Socialism . In 1942 he escaped his imminent arrest on suspicion of offenses under Section 175 of the Criminal Code. He went underground and, according to his own statements, led an armed resistance group in Berlin . After the war he was installed as a city councilor in Berlin-Friedenau , but later returned to Neustrelitz.

He is considered an example of Catholic resistance against National Socialism and was honored in this role as a role model in the GDR for several decades without the truthfulness of his reports from GDR times being checked. Because of his not hidden homosexuality , however, he lost this status in the 1960s and then lived in Zepernick, not far from Berlin.

Fischer was a member of the People's Chamber from 1950 to 1958, was a member of the main board of the CDU from 1952 to 1964, was a long-time member of the National Council of the National Front and of the Presidium of the Committee of Antifascist Resistance Fighters of the GDR .

Fischer died after a long illness at the age of 71.
