X-ray valley

Röntgengental is a residential area in the Zepernick district of the Panketal municipality in the Barnim district , Brandenburg .

The settlement was named in honor of Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen , the discoverer of X-rays .

In 1893 the development of the area began by the Niederbarnim district and various land associations, which were supposed to ensure the infrastructure for the development of the planned housing estate. Ten years later, a stop was opened on the route of the Szczecin Railway , which enabled a direct connection to the nearby cities of Berlin and Bernau and Pankow . This promoted the attractiveness of Röntgengental, which resulted in the expansion of urban villas and holiday homes. The stop is now a station on the Berlin S-Bahn line S2.

The place was the location of the central reception center of the GDR , into which people who wanted to immigrate to the GDR were temporarily admitted for examination.
