history
The story Brinjes dated until the Middle Ages when the town belonged to the noble families of Frankopan and the Gorjanski was. The place is on the salt road , which was built by the Romans and leads from Senj over the Vratnik pass into the interior.
The village is located below the Sokolac Castle , first mentioned in 1343, which houses one of the best preserved Gothic castle chapels in Croatia. The chapel of St. Mary dates from the 14th century. The castle name comes from the Croatian word “sokol” (“falcon”), which is also part of the city's coat of arms.
